MARS, Mid Argyll Radio Sailing, is a sporting club whose members enjoy sailing radio controlled model boats, both sailing and motor driven.  We are a friendly group of people and actively welcome membership from all ages and sections of the community.  We are aware of the importance of inclusiveness and the need for accessibility, to enable elders and the physically less able, to take part on equal terms.

We engage in and promote model boating of all types.  We hold informal races, mainly with radio controlled sailing boats and occasionally invite other model boat clubs to join us for more formal racing.  Radio controlled sailing is an excellent activity and can be enjoyed by many people, whether they seek to have calm gentle experience or take part in challenging, exciting racing.  Model sailing racing provides many similar challenges to full size boat racing and operates under very similar racing rules.  Model boat sailing can enable people, who are otherwise unable to access the sport, to be able to participate in sailing and additionally, do so at a much lower cost.  Some of our members also sail in full size boats.

Our sailing water, in a lochan by lock 9 of the Crinan Canal, is very beautiful. It is a superb location to enjoy a pleasant time outdoors. There are toilets nearby and handy car parking is also available.  Eating places can be found within a mile or two and of course Argyll offers excellent accommodation for visitors.

We know, from the many people who stop and watch, that our activities attract interest and positive reactions from visitors to the canal, and add to its amenity.

Our aims are to benefit the local community, by offering an active outdoor recreation suitable for all ages and physical abilities; to develop improving access to our sailing water; to grow our membership and to be able to offer safer and easier to use sailing facilities which cater for a wider community.
